150 MWp Regional Solar Park in the Gambia

Project Details

The West African Power Pool (WAPP) was created by the highest decision-making authority of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to promote and develop power generation and transmission facilities to, eventually, ensure the coordination of power exchanges between ECOWAS member states. Under the ECOWAS master plan, WAPP has taken an initiative to establish a 150 MWp WAPP Regional Solar Park in The Gambia as part of their infrastructure development program. To support the implementation of the solar project, the World Bank is providing a grant to WAPP under technical assistance known as “Solar Development in Sub-Saharan Africa Project Phase-1 (Sahel). The proposed project is going to be developed adhering to the concept of Solar Park “Plug & Play”.

The ESIA consultant is also conducting a site selection study to select a suitable site in respect of environmental and social perspectives. Based on the outcome of both consultants’ study, the final site for the proposed solar project will finalize and submit to the government authority for their approval.
